Save a Life: Become a Bone Marrow Donor

UPDATE!!

On May 27, 2006 Parag Patel underwent a successful bone marrow transplant from his sister Hetal Patel.  At the 100 day mark, the bone marrow test results came back clear of leukemia.

In October the catheter was able to be removed from his arm since Parag's blood counts are back to normal.

The sisters of Delta Phi Omega nationwide continue to pray for Manisha & Parag's family and health.

Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. also still encourages donating and hosting blood drives to continue to help save lives!

On Feb 23, 2006, Parag K. Patel, husband of National Founding Mother Manisha Vakharia, was diagnosed with Leukemia. He has undergone his first round of chemotherapy treatment.

On March 23, 2006, Parag K. Patel and his family were told the only way to save him is a BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT. Please join us in the effort to save his LIFE and many others like him.

Patients all over the world need people like you to donate marrow, peripheral (circulating) blood or umbilical cord blood, or to help in other ways. There are many ways you can contribute. SAMAR serves patients diagnosed with leukemia and other fatal blood disorders from the South Asian community and other minority groups who are in search of Blood Stem Cell/Marrow donors. A complete health check is done to ensure there is no danger to either the recipient or the donor. The chances of finding a match have improved in the past few years but still there are several minority patients who need a match. Large number of donors from the same race increase the chance of a patient finding a match for a life-saving marrow transplant. Together, we can HELP BRING A SMILE BACK TO LIFE.
